Carpenters Legacy, the internationally renowned tribute to the music of Karen and Richard Carpenter, is excited to unveil the Spanish version of their hit song Superstar. Known for their dedication to recreating the Carpenters’ legendary live performances, Carpenters Legacy has captivated audiences around the globe with their authenticity and artistry.
Carpenters Legacy, featuring Sally Olson as Karen Carpenter and Ned Mills as Richard Carpenter, stands as the first and only tribute act to fully recreate the Carpenters’ iconic concerts, complete with spot-on vocals, live instrumentation, and even Karen’s famous drum solo. Their performances pay homage to one of the most successful duos in pop music history, delivering timeless hits to new generations of fans.
In this latest release, Carpenters Legacy has taken the classic ballad “Superstar” and transformed it into a vibrant Spanish-language rendition. The new version blends the styles of bolero and reggaeton, breathing fresh life into the song while preserving the emotional depth that made it a hit in the 1970s. Fans can enjoy a performance of the song here.
“We wanted to give ‘Superstar’ a new sound that would resonate with today’s audiences around the world,” says Ned Mills, the arranger of the Spanish version. “By combining traditional Latin rhythms with the Carpenters’ signature style, we’ve created something both unique and faithful to the original.”
Spanish Superstar is included as part of Carpenters Legacy: 1976, an album that faithfully recreates the Carpenters’ 1976 live performances at the New London Theatre and London Palladium. The album features fan favorites such as “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Close to You,” and “Yesterday Once More,” alongside bonus tracks like “Desperado” and even the “Suntory Pop” Japanese soda jingle—a rare recording that highlights the Carpenters’ international appeal.
“The challenge with a song like ‘Superstar’ is that it’s so iconic. Everyone has a vision of what it should sound like,” says Mills. “We wanted to keep the integrity of the song while introducing something completely new. The result is something that feels both familiar and fresh.”
Carpenters Legacy continues to push creative boundaries, bringing Karen and Richard Carpenter’s timeless music to new audiences worldwide. With the release of the Spanish version of “Superstar,” they’ve managed to expand their repertoire without straying from the true heart of the Carpenters’ music.
