For years, the Masonic organization has supported public education and endorsed school programs throughout the nation. In California, Public Schools Month has been sponsored and promoted every April by the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California since 1920. For this year’s Public Schools Month activities, the Chula Vista Elementary School District teamed with long-time partner, Chula Vista Masonic Lodge #626 to award well-rounded and service oriented youth in the District.
Some of the first schools in America were started by Masons who advocated strongly to make education possible for everyone. For more than 90 years, the Chula Vista Masonic Lodge has honored CVESD students and it is believed to be the longest-running continuous partnership in the District. The 2019 Masonic Awards for student citizenship represents the growth of this partnership and the on-going effort CVESD puts into ensuring its students are good community members as well.
“The Masonic Awards, while celebrating good citizenship, also remind us of one of our nation’s greatest strengths: public education,” said Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D. “The Masonic Awards help reinforce what we are teaching in the classroom about self-regulating their behavior, common courtesy, service to others and engaging in civil discourse.” Chula Vista Elementary School District is an integral part of the Chula Vista community, producing students who have used the award-winning public education provided them to become model citizens who are prepared for their future.
