January 9, 2022 – With constant changes in means of how Gen Z college students get informed, it is important for educators to adapt.
Willamette University chemistry professor Dr. Karen McFarlane Holman did just that, disrupting the EdTech industry with her new Twitch channel called “The Chemistry Rockstar”. Knowing that Twitch is a growing streaming platform where Gen-Z presence is constantly growing, Dr. Holman knew it was the right time to take college chemistry education to the next level.
“I’ve always had a huge passion to inspire as many college students as possible to feel knowledgeable and confident in chemistry. I saw Twitch as a powerful tool to create a chemistry community and fun content for a large college audience”.
With that idea in mind, Dr. Holman teamed up with StudySoup, an EdTech company that provides learning resources to college students, to create a space to learn chemistry and grow a community on Twitch and Discord.
Being the first of its kind, Dr. Holman is breaking the mold of just having contact with professors in the classroom. She has a built sense of community through digital platforms creates a new learning dynamic where the traditional lecture-style class takes a backseat.
