With the common efforts of researchers, Creative Biolabs has developed a large number of peptide MHC tetramer product collections for research on cancer, virus-related, bacteria-related, and other fields.
MHC molecules’ fuction is to bind peptide fragments that are derived from pathogens and display them on the cell surface for recognition by the appropriate T cells. The results are almost always deleterious to the pathogen—virus-infected cells are killed, macrophages are activated to kill bacteria living in their intracellular vesicles, and B cells are activated to produce antibodies that eliminate or neutralize extracellular pathogens.
MHC Tetramers are a type of MHC molecules. They have emerged as an important tool for characterization of the specificity and phenotype of T cell immune response, and are useful in a large variety of disease and vaccine studies. Peptide-MHC multimers display an antigenic peptide in the MHC binding groove, functioning as a surrogate for recognition events that occur as part of the T cell interaction with antigen-presenting cell.
MHC tetramer is a promising tool for research in immunology. The most prevalent form of multimer in use today consists of biotin-labeled pMHC displayed on streptavidin molecules, forming tetravalent complexes. MHC tetramers are quite useful in quantitation of antigen-specific T cell response. When coupled with methods that predict peptide binding to MHC molecules, tetramer analysis can be extremely useful for identifying T cell epitopes.
Apart from MHC tetramer products, Creative Biolabs also provides different class of MHC tetramer custom services.
MHC tetramers may have great effects on cancer immunotherapy. They allow for ex vivo selection and proliferation of T-cells specific to tumor-related antigens, which can then be reintroduced to augment the immune system.
MHC tetramers may also influence vaccine development. Recently, ex vivo enrichment protocols based on the use of MHC class I tetramers that allow the detection and characterization of rare antigen-specific CD8+ T-cell populations as well as an estimation of their frequency have been reported.
In addition to cancer immunotherapy and vaccine development, MHC tetramer products provided by Creative Biolabs can also be applied in bacteriology-related research and other relevant research fields.
