Dehesa School is proud to offer its students the opportunity to build their strength and skills with a unique sport: archery. The archery program offered at Dehesa School is through the Olympic Archery in Schools (OAS) program, which is an in-depth system of teaching that is beneficial to both novice and experienced archers.
The OAS is an exciting program for Dehesa students because it teaches the steps of the shot process in archery called National Training System (NTS). This is the same shot process that Olympic archers use!
The primary sponsor of this program is the Easton Foundation, who has provided grants to participating archery program schools for approximately 10 years. This grant provides Dehesa School with all the needed new equipment and literature to have a successful program. The OAS program also provides hands-on training for coaches and staff to become a certified archery instructor.
Dehesa has been a part of the OAS for almost 9 years. In this time, the school has seen student archers grow in the sport and accomplish some very competitive scores. Archery is a sport that all can enjoy, from the most athletic the the most intellectual individuals, having some key techniques like focus and consistency.Dehesa School is starting its third season in local competitions against other middle schools in San Diego, which will lead to the championship to be held at the official Olympic Training Center located in Chula Vista, CA.
