Depth filters mainly act as clarifiers, separating suspended solids from a bulk flow liquid streams, and are hence deployed in the final stage of the separation process. Depth filters generally consist of a single outlet stream of purified liquid and retains the waste particles within the matrix. Depth filtration can be used in pre-treatment to remove suspended particles from fluid, which is to be used as a feed stream or in clarification. Most depth filters are extensively used in pharmaceutical processes such as cell system harvesting and are made of cellulose fibers and filter aids. Depth filters ensure maximum recovery rate of the product by trapping contaminants within the filter matrix and also provide a cost-efficient and power-saving solution for a variety of industrial applications.
Increasing advancements in single-use technologies and development of large-scale single-use filter systems has boosted adoption of disposable technology in industrial processes and this is expected to further fuel growth of the market over the forecast period. In addition, ability of these filters to retain particles throughout the medium instead of on the surface and high loading capacity of these filters are expected to further contribute to market growth over the forecast period. However, media migration during filtration and microbial growth and retention of certain quantity of particulate matter in filter matrix are expected to restrain market growth to some extent over the forecast period.
