“I Am FREE: Freedom From The Only Thing Stopping Me” is the latest project from 24-year-old motivational speaker, Derrick K Freeland Jr., as he continues to inspire others to become “FREE.” The self-help book is targeted towards the youth, providing them with insights on how to cultivate their success through Social-Emotional Learning.
It is no news that millions of people, particularly youths in different parts of the world often struggle to achieve their goals. Several solutions have emerged over the years to address this unfortunate phenomenon, with Social and emotional learning (SEL) being one of the most recent and effective techniques. Research reveals that SEL helps to improve achievement by an average of 11 percentile points while also increasing prosocial behaviors (such as kindness, sharing, and empathy), improving student attitudes toward school, and reducing depression and stress among students. However, there are not enough resources to teach Social Emotional Learning, which is an issue Derrick K Freeland aims to address with “I Am FREE: Freedom From The Only Thing Stopping Me.”
The book contains 10 chapters that teaches the five core competencies of Social Emotional Learning through inspirational stories, quotes, diagrams, and positive affirmations. The self-help guide aims to spark a change and teach readers how to break free from negativity, take control of their life, and ultimately reach their goals and aspirations through Social-Emotional Learning.
In a similar vein, Derrick K Freeland Jr. created the I Am Free Scholarship Program, which will be funded from the book sales. The program is targeted at underserved and neglected students. The program is unique as it breaks the limitation of most scholarships, allowing recipients to use scholarship funds towards college, vocational trade schools, and other skills programs.
The “I Am FREE” Movement is targeted at young, aspiring individuals, helping them to achieve their goals regardless of their backgrounds or status in society.
