Deus Otiosus, the award-winning Short exploring how AI could shape humanity to solve the climate crisis, is now available to watch for free.

“The film’s setting, the detail to how it is shot, and the grand period piece elements are nothing shy of a godly treat.” – Special Jury Prize, Monkey Bread Tree Film Awards

In an iron-age society, Bryana, a pregnant hunter, loses her husband to pestilence. Exiled from home, she hunts for a hermit believed to have magic and demands to know why he does nothing to help. Unfortunately this god has been far from idle.

Deus Otiosus: The Idle God is a sci-fi short film posing an urgent question: with humans hopelessly incapable of solving the climate crisis, could a high-level AI step-in and ‘guide’ us? We are fast approaching the point where only a miracle can stop the planet overheating – this film explores what could happen if our politicians forlorn prayers for ‘technology’ to save us are actually answered.

Starring Christopher Fairbanks (Guardians of the Galaxy Alien3, Batman) and Sèverine Howell-Meri (Amazon Prime’s Hanna), the film was written and directed by Mat Braddy, Brand Founder of tech startup Just Eat plc.

The film has spent the past 12 months playing cities around the world including Paris, Rome, Boston and New York, picking up multiple awards for direction, cinematography and acting along the way. And now, for the first time, audiences at home can stream it free at www.theidlegod.com
