New Orleans, LA, USA – August 17, 2020 – For Jane Doe, losing her job during the 2020 Pandemic has left her homeless with her health taking a toll. As an effort to survive, she set up a GoFundMe campaign. Doe says, “The challenges have been a struggle, but I am determined to raise awareness on the issues that have affected many workers like myself, but my attempts to raise awareness has not gained any momentum.”
Doe is presently living in a temporary shelter. Doe says, “I am trying to avoid going back to sleeping in my car if the funds run out. It’s very difficult when you have health issues to be out there in your car. We don’t belong out in the streets sleeping in our cars as hard-working Americans and left stranded with no aid as we keep hearing the same thing to hang in there. For me, it seems like a nightmare that never ends.
Doe lost her job when instructed to self-quarantine when she became symptomatic and turned down for COVID testing, which resulted in her contract being terminated by her employer. She has continued to seek employment to no avail. “I just need to retain housing and rebuild and find employment,” then I’ll be okay,” Doe says. “In the meantime, I need help, that is why I set up a GoFundMe page.”
