Dr. Westhoven’s Impeccable Credentials Give Patients Supreme Confidence
Born and raised in Birmingham, Dr. Westhoven graduated from Vestavia Hills High School before attending Auburn University. Dr. Westhoven earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a summa cum laude distinction through her studies at Auburn, subsequently earning her MD with honors from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
After graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Westhoven completed her internship in internal medicine at Richmond Memorial Hospital and her dermatology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She returned to her hometown of Birmingham in 1999 and joined Associated Dermatologists, completing her board certification that same year.
Through years of sustained dedication to her patients, Dr. Westhoven has earned the respect of medical colleagues around the state. She served as Vice President and Secretary of the Alabama Dermatological Society (ADS) and then in 2012, she was named President of the ADS. Dr. Westhoven is always looking for new ways to get involved in the community and she is an active member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.
About Associated Dermatologists
Founded by dermatologist, Dr. Larry Sampson in 1972, Associated Dermatologists started in the Eastlake area before moving to the hospital now known as St. Vincent’s East and presently Associated Dermatologists is located at 1401 Edwards Lake Rd.
In 2002, three decades after Dr. Sampson started the practice, Dr. Westhoven acquired Associated Dermatologists and Dr. Sampson officially retired five years later. Dr. Courtney Robbins joined the practice in 2008 and Associated Dermatologists presently has three providers Dr. Gail Westhoven, Dr. Courtney Robbins, and Jaime Dunn, P.A. who joined the practice in 2016. Jaime was just awarded the national physician assistant of the year for 2021 by the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
