Robert Langdon, MD, of The Langdon Center is honored to discuss his technique for minimum-incision deep plane facelifts at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. The meeting will be held January 31st through February 2nd at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida. Its purpose is to bring together cosmetic surgeons from across the country so they can learn about the cutting-edge cosmetic surgery techniques and proven strategies used by successful practices for positive patient outcomes.
During his January 31st presentation, Dr. Langdon will explain how a minimum-incision deep plane facelift can help patients improve the most apparent signs of aging and achieve a more youthful appearance in their face and neck.
Although many facelifts simply tighten the superficial fascia (SMAS) beneath the skin, the minimum-incision deep plane facelift that Dr. Langdon performs includes measures to increase the mobility of the SMAS so that it can be lifted to a greater extent. When the SMAS is modified and lifted in this way, a patient can enjoy more impressive and long-lasting results and can look years younger.
Dr. Langdon notes that the major advantages of his facelift technique include the reduced requirement for subcutaneous undermining, improved reversal of gravitational sagging, and possibly, the prolongation of surgical results.
Between June 14th 2017 and May 1st 2019, 28 patients underwent the minimum-incision deep plane facelift procedure. All procedures were performed with a minimal length pre-auricular incision and no midline neck surgery except for liposuction. Most patients experienced satisfactory results with acceptable amounts of bruising and swelling. Two patients experienced temporary neuropraxia (muscle weakness) that resolved within a few weeks.
The minimum-incision deep plane facelift may be a good option for patients in good general health who are bothered by moderate to severe laxity in the mid to lower region of their face and neck. It can result in a natural look that avoids a too-tight or “wind tunnel” appearance.
