Phoenix, AZ – A walk through a Japanese forest is one of the best ways to connect with nature. Now, guides trained with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT) can experience the natural beauty of Japan with forest bathing walks and tours.
ANFT forest therapy guides have the rare opportunity to embark on a journey of discovery that will immerse them in the wonders of nature and inspire them with different ways of guiding. Their founder, M. Amos Clifford, has partnered with Future with Forest’s founder Nagisa Ono to organize a Cross-Cultural Pilgrimage to Japan from October 13 to October 16, 2023. This event promotes a comprehensive understanding of forest therapy practices and potential.
ANFT’s Relational Forest Therapy model was developed independently by M. Amos Clifford in the U.S. in 2012 with little knowledge of the Japanese Shinrin-Yoku practice. His expertise derives from his experience as a wilderness guide, counselor and his research on the healing power of nature.
However, in October 2017, Amos and a few guides made a pilgrimage to Japan, where they learned about the similarities and differences between ANFT’s and Japanese models. The upcoming voyage will continue to build on that exchange of ideas and understanding between the two cultures.
Amos Clifford and Future with Forest’s Nagisa Ono will lead the pilgrimage, which will include visits to some of Japan’s top Shinrin-Yoku sites and forest bathing trails. Participants will learn about nature’s healing power and be inspired by different ways of guiding. The pilgrimage aims to strengthen the cross-cultural exchange of ideas and understanding of forest therapy and promote a more comprehensive understanding of this practice.
The itinerary is packed with experiences that will take participants on a journey of self-discovery and connection with nature. One of the stops is at Akazawa Natural Recreation Forest, where forest bathing was first developed. Participants will also be able to attend talks and workshops by top researchers and experts in forest therapy.
The Cross-Cultural Pilgrimage to Japan is an all-inclusive event that includes four-day lodging, meals, transportation, forest bathing experiences, cultural activities, and translation services. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry and gain a deeper understanding of forest therapy practices.
ANFT is committed to promoting the healing power of nature and helping individuals connect with the natural world in meaningful ways. By bringing together forest therapy guides from across the globe, ANFT is fostering a community of professionals passionate about promoting nature’s healing power and helping individuals connect with the natural world.
The Cross-Cultural Pilgrimage to Japan is an incredible opportunity for forest therapy guides to gain a deeper understanding of forest therapy practices, visit some of Japan’s most beautiful forests, learn from top researchers and experts in the field, and network with other forest bathing practitioners.
