Exclusive Q & A: Behind the Scenes & Curtains with Kubbi
Q: What is one of your most memorable roles or moments in the film industry?
A: One of my most memorable roles was my 1st SAG role, I was flown to Knoxville, TN to the play role of Miranda in the 3 part series film The Work and The Glory, I got to work with 2 of my all-time favorite television actors- R.D. Call, Meredith Salenger, Eric Johnson I had been a supporter of their work on television for years. The Director was Sterling Van Wagenen who helped create the Sundance film festival, he told me he had chosen my audition tape himself. I will never forget that.
Q: Kubbi, you are known for selling out shows & being a crowd pleaser! How do you prepare for a theatrical performance ?
A: I prepare by developing a backstory for my characters, I break down the scripts to find the emotional connection and create the inflections on certain words to convey the connection with my fellow characters. In that development, I do my best to make each character 3 dimensional and real. I live the character, so the audience will see the truth in my performance.
Q: What would you say the biggest difference for you is in filming versus being on set?
A: I’ve directed mostly for stage and the difference is as a director you have to have the vision for the entire show and work with the set designers, the stage managers, musical directors, the set builders, and choreographers. As the actor, all I have to do is work on my character and bring to life what the writer envisioned as well as my connection to my fellow actors and my environment. The director creates the environment I have to make the life livable as the actor.
Q: Do you have any favorite quote or motto in life for success?
A:There are several that I try to hold on to. All things work together for the Good, for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I ask or think according to the power that works within me. Though she may be small, she is fierce. (Shakespeare)
