Coming soon! Four new exciting adventure stories for children in one volume, from the author Elizabeth Dooley. As a child growing up in the suburbs of Manchester, England, there was nothing more Elizabeth liked to do than curl up with an exciting adventure story. Freedom to roam and play in the fields and woods near her home fuelled her adventurous spirit. Reading continued to feature in her life as she studied English at Leicester University and then taught in Primary schools. Having married and with three small children, her taste for adventure was satisfied by living for ten years in Chile, South America. She wrote ‘Streams in the Wasteland’ about the British pioneers of sheep farming in the wilds of Patagonia. Back where she grew up, and now with three grandchildren, she continues to love stories, including those found in the Bible.
She has now turned her attention to children’s literature, and in the Fern Valley Ventures has fulfilled her desire to write wholesome modern adventure stories. Each of the four self-contained stories features the children who call themselves the Fern Valley Venturers. Tom and Ali build a secret treehouse in Fern Valley in The Vanishing. But when Tom finds an even better hiding place, he has no idea it will soon turn into a death trap. In The Vortex, Jim seems intent on making Sameer’s life a misery as the Venturers face the challenges of a week at an activity camp. The children find out if Sameer will become his friend when Jim is almost swept away to a watery end.
The Villa finds the two identical twins, Jill and Jackie, making mischief as the Venturers are involved in an archaeological dig in the village. As well as finding Roman artifacts, the children have to track down a thief who steals the finds and a vandal who threatens to ruin the dig. In The Verdict, Laura is devastated when the cash box she has been entrusted with is stolen at the school fair. It’s Guy Fawkes Night, and as the bonfire roars and rages out of control and fireworks explode all around them, the Venturers seek to catch the thief and recover the money.
Each story is richly enhanced with colour illustrations, and within each one, a parable is embedded, which the reader can explore if desired. A sequel is already waiting in the wings, where the Fern Valley Venturers experience four more exciting escapades.
