Written and directed by Jeff Kopas (“An Insignificant Harvey”, “Dogasaur”, “The Other Side”) and Doug Taylor (“Splice”, “A Christmas Horror Story”, “Darknet”), ‘BLOOD HONEY’ follows Jenibel (Shenae Grimes-Beech), a psychologically scarred woman, on her return to her family’s mysterious, secluded lodge to help her sibling care for their dying father.
Facing her family’s secluded lodge for the first time in 10 years, Jenibel’s childhood trauma overcomes her quickly when she remembers witnessing her mother’s frightful suicide. Facing the demons from her childhood blurs the distinction between reality and her hallucinations, as the audience grips tight watching her stumble down a traumatic, terrifying path, unsure if she’ll ever truly escape her current living nightmare.
In recent interview with Leorna Heilbronn for Brief Take, Heilbronn writes, “Grimes-Beech gives a riveting, career-best performance in Blood Honey”, before she began the interview.
Heilbronn asked Grimes-Beech, “How did you get involved with the project [Blood Honey]?
“I got involved with the project when the script was sent my way via my agent in Canada, Amanda Rosenthal. Psychological thrillers are up there as one of my favorite genres of film to watch and the mood board for the film’s imagery along with the script’s story had me hooked. I didn’t see the twist at the ending coming at all while I was reading and I knew it would be even more shocking for audiences, making it a fun story to bring to life!” answered Grimes-Beech.
Many of us recognize Shenae Grimes-Beech from ‘The New Degrassi’ and for her lead role in the CW’s revival of “The New Beverly Hills 90210” as ‘Annie Wilson’, the sweet, Kansas girl who moves to the big 90210 with her family, thrust into Hollywood’s theatre spotlight, full of two-faced girls, expensive bags and high-school scandals.
Since, Grimes-Beech has continued her passion for acting, as well as Annie Wilson’s love for fashion, leading her to long-wanted passion projects, such as her collaboration with her husband, Josh Beech (singer, songwriter, model) to create their own brand of punk rock paired with Bohemian-vibed styles called ‘Two Halves’.

Since “90210”, Grimes-Beech hasn’t been the center of Hollywood’s spotlight, but rather has chosen her projects with precision and thought, like her exciting upcoming lead role as ‘Jack Cooper’ in CTV’s new, gritty television series, “The Deal” (2018).
In recent interview with Chris Alexander from ComingSoon.net, he addressed her roles since ‘The New Degrassi’ and ‘90210’, stating, “Life has taken many turns for you professionally since then. What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned about acting in the last decade?”
“Frankly, I’ve learned to enjoy it again. I’ve learned to be grateful and excited and find the wonderment in every step of process as I did when I first started. When you grow up and begin “adulting” and have bills to pay and images to maintain and all the rest of it, you can find yourself buckling under pressure. This pressure can suck the life out of the spirit of performing, which is precisely why I took a couple years off from acting altogether after “90210”; to regain perspective. I’ve reconnected with that little dreamer inside of me that has always helped me thrive as an actor and chosen to stick a mental middle finger up at the noise that can drown out the brilliance of this crazy career I’ve chosen,” answered Grimes-Beech.
“BLOOD HONEY” was initially released by the Canadian film distributor Northern Banner Releasing (a side-arm of Raven Banner Releasing) and had its world premiere in Toronto during September 2017 at Cineplex Yonge-Dundas, with following screenings in Vancouver and Calgary.
