Garner Recovery Centre Applauds Nottingham Council’s Commitment to Detox Services Amid Rising Costs
Garner Recovery Centre applauds Nottingham City Council’s decision to continue funding The Level detox unit despite rising costs. Specialist Jim Jones emphasises the importance of maintaining accessible detox services, including alcohol rehab, to support recovery and reduce waiting times, ensuring essential care for Nottingham’s residents battling addiction.

Nottingham, UK – 7th November, 2024 – Garner Recovery Centre commends Nottingham City Council’s recent decision to continue funding The Level detox unit in Radford, despite increased operational costs. The two-year funding extension underscores the council’s dedication to addressing substance abuse within Nottingham, providing critical resources to those seeking to break free from addiction. Garner Recovery Centre’s Jim Jones emphasises that this commitment is essential to public health, ensuring continuity of life-saving services.

The Level, operated by Framework, a local homelessness support charity, offers around-the-clock care for adults battling addiction. By securing ongoing funding, Nottingham City Council reaffirms its support for those in need of detox and stabilisation services, including medically-assisted detoxification, emergency crisis intervention, and referrals for long-term rehabilitation. The center will continue running until June 2026, with an increased annual cost of £336,050, up from £285,525, attributed to inflation and essential staff pay raises.

Jim Jones, Garner Recovery Centre’s addiction treatment specialist, expressed strong support for the council’s decision, stating, “Addiction recovery requires consistent and accessible support, and Nottingham’s decision to maintain funding for The Level is a step in the right direction. For those struggling with substance misuse, including alcohol addiction, having access to safe, professional detox services is essential. We need this continued investment to provide Nottingham residents with the resources and care they need to rebuild their lives.”

Despite escalating costs, the council maintains that the current rate of £286 per day per bed remains competitive when compared to similar facilities, which often charge between £308 and £1,000. This financial prudence ensures quality care without sacrificing accessibility, even as economic pressures continue to rise.

Jones further explained, “Reducing bed numbers to cut costs would have had a devastating impact on service users. Garner Recovery Centre strongly advocates for maintaining, if not expanding, detox services to meet the growing demand in Nottingham. Extended waiting times due to bed shortages can delay vital treatment and worsen outcomes, often placing individuals and families at greater risk.”

The Level detox unit provides comprehensive services tailored to individual needs, including medical assessments, assisted withdrawal programs, overdose prevention training, and referrals for residential rehabilitation. Such services are crucial in preventing relapse and supporting long-term recovery, particularly in light of the current public health challenges and the city’s escalating need for addiction treatment options.

Garner Recovery Centre, a key provider of addiction and alcohol rehab in Nottingham, looks forward to working alongside local authorities and community partners to support sustained funding and resources for addiction services. “We’re proud of Nottingham City Council’s decision to prioritise the health and safety of its residents, and we remain committed to supporting individuals on their recovery journeys,” Jones concluded.
