George Stamas Named Among 1040 Australians in the 2022 Australian Day Honours List

The Australian Honours and Awards system recognises the outstanding service and contributions of Australians, and this year six Greek Australians are on the list of honourees

Every year, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia names a list of exceptional personalities who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Australia in what is referred to as the Australia Honours List. This year, the Governor-General has announced the Australia Honours List, and it contains six Greek Australians, one of whom is George Stamas of GJK Facility Services.

George Stamas was born in Melbourne to Greek parents who migrated to Australia in the 1950s. He started his own facilities management business, which now employs more than 3,000 people in Australia and New Zealand. In 2017, he was also involved in launching GJK Indigenous Solutions. Mr Stamas has been recognised for his significant service to the community through Australia’s not-for-profit sector and the business world.

He has been Director at the Epworth Medical Foundation since 2018. He has also been involved in the establishment of GJK Indigenous Solutions (since 2017) and the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne (mid-2000s). He is a supporter and donor to various charities such as The Hunger Project Australia and Kids Cancer Project.

Furthermore, George Stamas has also been involved in several associations: Building Services Contractors Association of Australia (National President and Vice President); Victorian Branch, Building Services Contractors Association of Australia (State President); and the Facility Management Association of Australia (Vice-Chair, Board Member, Finance Director, Joint Chair).

Stamas is the founder of GJK Facility Services, a leading provider of facility services committed to providing better experiences to its customers. Today, he occupies a seat in the advisory board of GJK Facility Services helping the company maintain its multi-disciplinary facility services business and its long-standing customer relationships across a diverse range of markets, delivering commercial cleaning, grounds, restoration, projects & maintenance, and support services.

Getting listed on the Australia Day Honours list is a delight for George Stamas. In his words, “I have always been keen to put back into society, more around charity work and supporting underprivileged people. My not-for-profit work has been very fulfilling for me.”

The Australian Honours and Awards system celebrates Australians’ outstanding service and contributions. Recipients come from right across the country and from all walks of life. While some are well-known, the majority are unsung heroes. Australians who give tirelessly to the community deserve to be thanked and recognised for their achievements. The Honours and Awards system provides the nation with a chance to celebrate and acknowledge those who work tirelessly to improve local communities and make Australia a better place.
