The China Science and Technology Training Base for children received the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission during May 2013. It is an investment of 612 million Yuan in content and 498 million Yuan in capacity for building a national major welfare project within the twelfth five-year plan. The China Soong Ching Ling foundation will be in charge of the construction, operation, and management of the project. They are based in Beijing’s Haidian District. The project will occupy a total land area of 82,307 square meters. From this, 24,254 square meters of the area will be used for construction. The overall height of the building is 46.9 meters, and the whole area for construction occupies up to 80,802 square meters. It will have nine floors on the ground, which will occupy 50,000square meters. The underground will have two floors and occupy about 30,308 square meters.
This massive welfare project is the only public project in China that serves children. This project is a first-class activity location that features modernization, demonstration, internationalization and acts as a landmark.
This project consists of three parts, which include; main building, international kindergarten (has three parts) and future theater. Both the future theatre and main building have a façade wall that is decorated with the LOPO Terracotta panel. The façade wall of the Kindergarten has terracotta louvers decoration.
The architecture has a smooth and elegant outline, which makes it have an arc surface shape. This large-scale project uses 35 various shapes of the terracotta facade panels, which merges LOPO mold as well as on-site technical innovation.
The engineering is designed to suit children. Hence the project’s safety requirement, green construction, and environmental protection are top-notch. In regards to the features, the process of construction engineering takes into account safety and functionality. Natural clay is used in making LOPO terracotta cladding tiles. Clay is recycled and is a renewable resource.
The Terracotta wall curtain mechanism is among the first alternatives for decoration of the exterior wall for upscale construction. The terracotta cladding tiles comprise of natural clay combined with water and top-notch firing work temperature.
The mixture is then mixed with other façade materials such as stone, steel, glass, and more. Terracotta wall designs are broadly used in the building’s exterior as alternatives to the untidy and rugged brick masonry. The terracotta surface can either be unglazed or glazed and has various color options. There is also the option of customized colors. Furthermore, the colors consist of granite and marble. Therefore there will be no discoloration or fading over time.
The production of the terracotta panels is friendly to the environment and consumes less energy. Terracotta cladding tiles also have a hollow structure and sturdy insulation which enables the conservation of energy.
It also has natural items which are rich silicon oxide, minerals of calcium carbonate, aluminum oxide. All of these items have chlorine as the radioactive element.
The range of the Terracotta Facade Panels provides multiple innovative as well as long-lasting solutions to isolate, protect, and magnify facades with the clay tiles.
It is important to note that these panels won the China Building Construction Luban Awards during November 2017.
