The global cocoa butter trade fluctuated mildly over the period under review. A slight drop in 2009 was followed by recovery in 2010 and another decline over 2011-2012. After increasing in 2013 and 2014, exports slightly decreased again in 2015, amounting to 5,650 million USD. Overall, there was an annual increase of +6.8% from 2007 to 2015.

According to IndexBox estimates, the Netherlands continued to dominate the market in the global supplies of cocoa butter. In 2015, cocoa butter exports from the Netherlands totaled 1,610 million USD, which accounted for a 28% share in terms of global exports. Indonesia, Malaysia, France, and Germany were the other key global suppliers of cocoa butter in 2015, with a 39% combined share of global exports.

Germany (+26.1% per year) and Indonesia (+15.4% per year) were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2015. Indonesia strengthened its position in terms of global cocoa butter exports, growing its share from 7% in 2007 to 13% in 2015.

On the other hand, Germany (14%, based on value terms), USA (12%), The Netherlands (10%), Belgium (9%), and the UK (6%) were the leading destinations of cocoa butter imports in 2015. Imports to Germany grew at a quick pace of +8% per year from 2007 to 2015. None of the major importers reduced their imports of cocoa butter over the period under review, and all of them maintained relatively stable import share sizes.
