April 26, 2019 – It incorporates other musical styles such as pop, R&B, soul and different traditional-style genres. The book, lyrics, and music is by Lin-Manuel Miranda which was inspired by the Alexander Hamilton biography written in 2004 by the historian Ron Chernow.
The current showings are part of what will be the third U.S. tour of Hamilton which began its run in January 11th, 2019. The first tour took off in March 2017. The play thus far has traveled globally, including a three-week run in Puerto Rico. The tours follow the success of the off-Broadway debut in February 2015 at The Public Theater that sold out. In August of 2015, the show moved to Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Here, the reception was unparalleled, leading to impressive box office sales as well.
Hamilton has won 11 Tony Awards, including for Best Musical, a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, all bagged in 2016. Its return to the Richard Rodgers Theatre is paying homage to the beginnings of this Broadway musical sensation. Currently, there are productions scheduled in various cities around the world through to 2020. Hamilton has a history of having sold out shows.
