The net inflow rate of human resources in Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang province, was second only to Beijing among all Chinese cities in 2020, according to the Talent Attractiveness Rankings of Chinese Cities: 2021.
It was the first time Hangzhou made the top 3 in the annual rankings.
The report was jointly published on May 14 by Zhilian Recruitment, one of China’s biggest recruitment websites, and a research team led by a famous macroeconomist Ren Zeping.
The report showed that Hangzhou’s net inflow rate of human resources stayed positive and continued rising from 2017 to 2020.
In 2020, Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai were the three most attractive Chinese cities to jobseekers.
Last year, the top 10 cities of origin for people moving to Hangzhou were sequentially Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Shaoxing.
Those from Shanghai and Beijing accounted for 15.8 percent of talent inflow.
Of the immigrants to Hangzhou in 2020, 29.5 percent worked in the city’s IT, telecommunications, electronics, and internet industries.
