A Toronto flooring company has revealed why chevron flooring is making a comeback as a flooring pattern of choice for so many people.
LV Hardwood Flooring said that chevron flooring had a rich history that more and more customers were embracing – whether they are renovating a floor they have found under an old carpet or fitting a new one. Chevron flooring is a particularly great pattern for people who need to floor a small room and are trying to create space.
A spokesman from LV Flooring said: “Chevron patterns were popular in the 17th Century, but it can be traced back to the Ancient Greek time when they used the patterns on ceramics and textiles. The pattern was also very common in military heraldry. The use and popularity of chevron patterns through the ages are probably how the chevron flooring pattern was inspired.“
“You can still see original chevron floors in a home that are more than a hundred years old. The pattern is a zigzag that creates a V shape and it is created by cutting two planks that are the same size at an angle and then positioning them together to form a point.”
“Traditionally, the main work to fit a chevron floor was done on-site. We would sand and finish individual blocks of wood and then fit them there and then. It is a very lengthy process, but the results were worth it. Due to the popularity of this type of flooring now, we have created pre-engineered wooden blocks for chevron flooring so it makes it so much easier and quicker to install. This also keeps the cost down for our customers.”
“Chevron flooring is a type of parquet flooring that spread into North America in the 1930s. It was really popular flooring until people started to get their hands on cheap synthetic carpets and covered them up. It has only been in recent years that people have removed the carpets and embraced these stunning floors or decided to replicate such wonderful patterns as part of a renovation or in new homes.”
“As well as fitting hardwood flooring, we also help our customers to keep their floors in amazing condition. There is no reason why a hardwood floor should not be an investment for life, as long as it is looked after properly,” he added.
