About the Author:
Jinyu Li an honorary member of the Canadian Artists’ Representation and the author of numerous solo exhibitions in China and abroad. In order to explore traditional Chinese culture, Jinyu Li went back to China from Canada in 1995. She took a bus from Shanghai alone and passed through Anhui, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and Gansu. She spent three months traveling, researching and collecting folk art, and then created a series of oil paintings in her studio. After returning to Canada, she spent a year at Concordia University in 1996 studying the history of Western art. During her ten years in Canada, as an influential painter, she exhibited her paintings in the Parliament Building in Ottawa, held a solo exhibition in the Toronto City Hall, and co-hosted a joint exhibition with other artist at Concordia University. 2006 has seen her reside in New York City, where she continues to hold solo exhibitions, participate in art competitions, and actively promote traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy in the local community. Li won Judge’s Choice Award in NY Coo Gallery (renamed as Coo Gallery)’s 2009 Open Art Contest; Jinyu Li’s painting was participated in the Eighty- fourth grand national exhibition of The American artists professional league in 2012; She was the only Chinese American artist who became a finalist in 2020 Southeast Queens Biennial; and her paintings have been selected for numerous exhibitions in the New Tang Dynasty International Figure Painting Competition and exhibited in New York. Her works have been published in overseas Chinese and English media, and her solo and group exhibitions have been covered many times. In 2013, U.S. Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, representing New York’s 9th Congressional District, presented Li with a Special Congressional Recognition for her “outstanding and invaluable contributions to her community”.
