Los Angeles, CA – The Micheaux Film Festival is thrilled to announce the premiere of the short film “Into The Void,” directed by the acclaimed filmmaker, activist, and survivor Giovannie Espiritu, at the 6th Annual Micheaux Film Festival. The festival will be held at the esteemed Culver Theater from October 21-27, 2024. Celebrating its sixth year, the Micheaux Film Festival will feature over 300 diverse projects from around the world, available both in-person and online.
This year’s vibrant selection includes more than 185 short films, feature films, and new media series, with additional projects showcased virtually. Organized by founders Noel Braham and Courtney L. Branch, the Micheaux Film Festival is recognized for offering a “Transformational Experience, not a Transactional One,” dedicated to elevating emerging talents from varied backgrounds and experiences.
Film Synopsis: “Into The Void” is a powerful spoken word poem that delves into the themes of silence, complicity, and the struggle against patriarchal oppression. The piece is a call to action for allies to stand up against abuses of power and inspires a collective awakening. Produced by Mona Lisa Yuchengco, the film is supported by the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Festival Highlights: The Micheaux Film Festival’s lineup spans multiple categories, including Live Action, Animation, Documentary, Web Series, Commercials, and Music Videos. The genres range from Horror and Romance to Drama, Action, Historical, Comedy, and Thrillers. The festival will also feature insightful panels with Hollywood executives, agents, and managers, along with Spotlight Conversations with industry titans.

Giovannie Espiritu, a Telly Award-Winning Director, activist, and survivor, brings her unique perspective and experiences to her work. Known for her roles in “Lone Star 911,” “Young Sheldon,” and “Bob Hearts Abishola,” Giovannie has also made her mark as a filmmaker with projects like “Legacy” and the upcoming “Love & Karma,” starring Filipino talent Belinda Panelo and Jojo Riguerra, with a supporting cast including Oscar Nominee Eric Roberts, Golden Globe Nominee Joanna Pacula, and international star Bai Ling. Currently, she is working on a romantic comedy limited series called “Maid To Shine” for the Fil-Am TV Network. Her work often explores themes of dismantling the patriarchy, healing generational trauma, and exposing systems of bias with humor.
