Sable Press is a new book publishing enterprise for diverse, multicultural, black authors, and distinctive genres of stories.
Founded by book publishing maestro, Amy Cancryn, Sable Press was designed to help Authors of African descent and other diverse authors tell their story.
The recent protests against police brutality and racial injustice have set off conversations in nearly every industry about the treatment of Black workers, and book publishing is no exception. The industry has long been criticized for hiring and retaining so few employees of color. According to a survey of the workforce released this year by the children’s book publisher Lee & Low Books, only 5 percent are Black.
As a panacea to this, Sable Press has developed a passion for promoting new minority authors and diverse authors and stories that have historically been locked out of publishing. “We want to help your unique story get published. Our mission is to connect readers with diverse authors who tell interesting stories who write the stories they want to read. We will be introducing the bestsellers of tomorrow,” remarked Amy Cancryn.
The enterprise will publish books from gifted authors from diverse backgrounds and genres — from romance, erotica, and science fiction, to fantasy, horror, mystery, women’s fiction, and more. “If the book of your heart fits into a niche that has very little shelf space in a traditional bookstore, Sable Press is eager to read and potentially publish your story”, declared Amy Cancryn.
Sable Press will also consider manuscripts whose genres doesn’t belong to any of its submission guidelines. Writers in this category are required to choose the “other” category during submission. The publishing house will consider stories between 10,000 to 50,000 words, and genre novels between 50,000 to 80,000 words. The company is a bit more inclined to romance and erotic romance but will also work with authors in self-help, memoirs, women’s fiction, science fiction, fantasy, futuristic, mystery, thrillers, horror, young adult genres.
Sable Press is replete with seasoned writers, authors, eagle-eyed editors, and proofreaders who go through a detailed book production process, editing submitted manuscripts to the required standard.
On the financial remuneration front, Sable Press is strictly royalty payments based on 40% of the original cover price on direct sales, 30% of the original cover price on 3rd party distribution sites like Barnes & Nobels, Amazon. This means that authors submitting their works don’t need to pay a dime. The enterprise handles the production, distribution, and marketing of client’s books.
