James Rutter Middle School’s after school mapping students made an appearance at the ESRI Map Gallery reception to show off their skills and connect with other students and professionals in the mapping industry. ESRI is an internationally known supplier of mapping software that holds multiple yearly receptions and competitions to bring the mapping community together and help the future of that industry connect with professionals. ESRI is the developer of the ArcGIS software James Rutter students use to develop their skills in this industry and is also used by professionals around the globe.
Last school year, James Rutter students had the opportunity to be recognized for their excellence in mapping at the CalGIS 2019 25th Annual Gathering where geographic information systems professionals gather for panels, presentations and pitches for new ideas in the world of GIS (Geographic Information System). Carrying on in their path of networking, James Rutter Middle School displayed their newest creations at the ESRI Map Gallery, and they even had the opportunity to interact with the CEO of ESRI, Jack Dangermond. What an amazing opportunity for these students to engage with the CEO of the largest GIS software developer in the world!
The geospatial mapping program is part of the Project Lead the Way at James Rutter Middle School, one part of the school’s Career Technical Education offerings to provide students with amazing hands-on experiences with mapping and top of the line mapping software. Geospatial mapping is a skill that students can use in the future, as many fields of work use this data. By focusing on future career options now, these young scholars have the potential to ignite a passion for this specific industry, leading to an impactful future.
