Kartel went to Corona Centennial High School for all 4 years & earned his diploma. (1999-2002) Kartel played Varsity basketball all 4 years. As a kid, Kartel says basketball was his first love. It was his way of getting off the streets and trying to make a way for his family. Kartel’s dad was in the Navy so he moved around a lot so he never had many friends, just basketball and music.
The first time Kartel Lucchi fell in love with music at the early age of 5 years old. Kartel’s mom and dad would play jazz and soul like Miles Davis, Sade, Billy Holiday, Sam Cook, and Frankie Beverly and Maze while Kartel & his brother would clean the house.
Coming in now with a whopping 4,000+ songs, 10+ mixtapes, & 6+ albums, Kartel is a master of his craft. Kartel’s brother Novakayne, (Ira Peppers) was a big influence as far as starting Kartel’s music career. Kartel’s brother and cousin Bishop started a group and dropped an album called the “Real Ones”. Kartel’s brother was known around the neighborhood for spitting the best freestyles off the top of head and he was rocking the show and just watching him made Kartel get more involved. Growing up, some of Kartel’s favorite rappers to listen to were 2Pac, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Nas, T.I., Young Jeezy.
Kartel’s grandma, Martha B. Jackson and his grandfather, Jessie Jackson lived on the street called Skylark. Kartel’s brother and him moved around a lot when they were kids so that was the only place that felt like home to them. That house is still in the family and they still go back to hang out there to this day. Be sure to follow Kartel Lucchi on all platforms.
