Short Description:
SmCo magnet is a kind of rare earth magnet, which is a magnet made of samarium, cobalt and other metal rare earth materials. Developed in 1970, SmCo magnets are the second strongest, second only to NdFeB magnets, with high maximum energy product (BHmax ranging from 9MGOe to 31 MGOe) and high coercivity. There are two composition ratios of SmCo magnets, which are SmCo5 and Sm2Co17. The content of amarium alloy is about 25%-36% by weight and is very useful in high-temperature operations and can be used in higher temperature applications. The Curie temperature of SmCo magnet is 600-710℃, and working temperature is 250-550℃.
Besides, SmCo magnets have other features:
Reliable performance: SmCo magnets are extremely resistant to demagnetization making them reliable in many environments.
Corrosion and oxidation resistance: Due to the low iron content in the composite material, SmCo magnets have excellent corrosion resistance. Unlike NdFeB, SmCo magnets does not need electroplating.
Temperature stability: SmCo can keep its magnetic force at high temperatures (249-300℃) and very low temperatures (-232℃).
Brittle materials: When in sintering, the material may be brittle, due to it’s brittle and easy to crack , the processing has limitations, which the traditional processing methods is not workable. However, it can be ground, but only if large amount of coolant are used. That’s because the coolant can minimize the risk of fire from thermal cracking and oxidized grinding dust.
Applications:
1. High-end PM motors. The general PM motors usually use ferrite magnets or NdFeB magnets. But in places where the temperature exceeds 200℃ or the stall torque is large, only SmCo PM motors are competent.
2. Electroacoustic devices in high-end loudspeaker systems.
3. Highly reliable instrument system. Many instruments used in aerospace, aviation, medical and other fields must use SmCo permanent magnets to ensure high reliability and perfect safety.
4. In extremely important radar and communication systems, a large number of traveling wave tubes, magnetrons, chasing tubes, chasing wave tubes, gyrotrons and other electric vacuum devices are used, and SmCo magnets make electron beams along the moving along a prescribed path.
5. SmCo magnetic extractors in deep wells below 3000 meters, and SmCo magnetic drive (pump) in high temperature environment of 200 ℃.
6. Magnetic suction head, magnetic separator, magnetic bearing, NMR, etc.
Application
SmCo magnet are widely used in aerospace, high temperature resistant motor, microwave equipment, communications, medical equipment, instruments and meters, various magnetic transmission equipment, sensors, magnetic processors, voice coil motors and so on.
