Kuester Management Group Lists Five Ways to Be a Better HOA Member

In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group lists some practical ways in which homeowners can contribute to their Association.

An HOA community is only as strong as its members—and for homeowners who have bought into an Association, there are plenty of ways to make a positive contribution. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group outlines five ways to be a better HOA member.

“The first thing you should do is review your Association’s rules and regulations, just to make sure you’re clear on all the expectations,” says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. “You agreed to these rules when you joined the HOA, but if you haven’t reviewed them in a while, now is a good time to do so.”

Another important way to contribute to the HOA is simply to stay in the loop. “Hopefully, you belong to an HOA that regularly sends out email updates, newsletters, and announcements,” Kuester remarks. “Don’t toss these documents into the garbage can unread; take the time to actually read up on what’s happening in your community!”

Third, Kuester points to the importance of paying dues. “This one’s simple: Pay your HOA assessments in a timely manner,” he states.

A fourth way in which HOA members can serve the community is to consider volunteering. “There is typically no shortage of opportunities to serve within your HOA, and you may even wish to run for a seat on the Board,” Kuester notes. “To learn more about the opportunities available to you, get in touch with a Board member.”

Finally, Kuester advises homeowners to simply take care of their properties. “You can be an asset to your HOA community simply by maintaining your home and your lawn, and in particular by upholding the standards outlined in the covenants, rules, and regulations,” he states.

The bottom line for HOA members is that there are plenty of big and small things they can do to be positive forces within their community. “Spend some time thinking about what you’ll do to make your HOA a better place,” concludes Kuester.
