La Mesa Dale Partners with Helix Charter Edge

La Mesa Dale recently partnered with Helix Charter EDGE, a program that provides Career Technical Education (CTE) to its students. These programs provide students with other post-secondary options and prepares them for workforce opportunities.

Pre-Pandemic, La Mesa Dale and Helix Charter started exploring the opportunity of a partnership, and on October 1st, 2021, Helix Charter took their first field trip to visit La Mesa Dale. One of the courses offered at Helix is the Education Pathway. This program offers students the ability to learn more about careers in education such as childcare, teaching, social work, and other opportunities. To support students and provide insight, the principal and teachers of La Mesa Dale and Superintendent David Feliciano, have spoken in classes at Helix Charter school multiple times. One recent graduate of Helix Charter EDGE Education Pathway is the daughter of La Mesa Art Academy’s principal; she’s currently a freshman in high school and is continuing her studies to become a teacher.

The school also offers pathways in computer science, business, and sports medicine. All of the pathways available allow students to take classes relative to their chosen CTE and provides students with multiple opportunities from internships, volunteer work, and paid jobs, to college credits in certain programs.

You can learn more about their pathways by visiting their website here: https://www.edge.helixcharter.net/pathways

The plans for this partnership are growing as the school year progresses with the goal of “rais[ing] up teachers from within our community as we strive to provide our students with representation, role models, and teachers they can relate to.”
