Made In USA Cold Weather Clothing Manufacturer Founder Discusses Supply Chain Issues

Founder of cold weather clothing manufacturer, WSI Sports, discusses how Made in USA items are able to bypass some of current supply chain challenges

Eagan, MN – November 9, 2021 – Today Joel Wiens, founder of WSI Sports, discussed the large increase in orders and ramping up production to meet the demand. The challenges which many companies are facing are to bring cold weather clothing to their customers heading into the winter months. WSI Sports, considered by many to be cold weather clothing experts, is a Made in USA manufacturer of clothing and accessories for outdoor activities.

Wiens said, “We discovered ways to bypass many of the current product shortages seen in the retail outdoor clothing market due to our manufacturing domestically. In particular, for the upcoming winter months, we have been able to get sufficient supplies for our cold-weather clothing line and address shipping issues to handle our increased customer orders. As a Made in USA manufacturer, we are aware of some of the challenges currently being experienced by others in the industry who source materials and/or manufacture items overseas. The supply chain challenges may continue for some time due to local restrictions and importing concerns once items arrive in U.S. waters, so we will focus on our domestic sourcing and manufacturing approach in order to keep our customers happy with quick turnaround times to deliver their ordered items.”

Wiens referenced an early October 2021 article from CNN which covered supply chain issues coming out of Southeast Asia such as Vietnam. The article cites increased shopper demand, local restrictions causing factory closures, and local factory reopening practices to happen in stages. That article can be found here: https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/02/business/vietnam-supply-chain-disruptions/index.html

Wiens said that the article noted that American consumers may be impacted negatively. This is because having fewer products to sell, the retailers will be less inclined to offer the customer any sort of discount due to the increased scarcity of the products.

According to the company’s website, WSI Sports designs, cuts, sews, and operates entirely out of its facility in Eagan, Minnesota. Since the company’s founding in 1990, Wiens has been selling performance clothing to athletes across North America including professional football, baseball, hockey, basketball, mixed martial arts, and other sports. The company also provides specialty performance gear for all weather conditions to college, high school, and other amateur sports coaches and athletes as well as the general public. This includes the company’s patented HEATR® line of warming clothing, which does not require any batteries to help the wearer stay warm even in freezing temperatures.
