In January, Moby announced a March 6 release date for his latest album, All Visible Objects. The date was pushed back to May 15, but two singles from the album were released in the meantime. The album is his first since Long Ambients 2, which came out in March 2019. The precursor to Long Ambients 2 was a collection of ambient tracks released in 2016, called Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep.
After releasing Long Ambients 2, Moby took some time away from producing music to focus on promoting his second autobiography, Then It Fell APart. This book is a memoir of his life and career between 1999 and 2009.
Moby’s previous writing accomplishments include his first autobiography, Porcelaine: A Memoir, released in January 2016, and Gristle: From Factory Farms to Food Safety (Thinking Twice About the Meat We Eat). The autobiography detailed his life and career from the time he moved to New York City in the 1980s through the release of his album Play in 1999. The other book was a collection of essays written by various food industry workers, detailing the consequences of factory farming. He released the collection with activist Miyun Park in 2010.
The first single and video from the album, “Power Is Taken,” features rapper Boogie and vocals from Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro. People are comparing the style of the piece to his dance music from the 1990s. The song is a passionate call for change in the world.
The second track and video released was “Too Much Change,” featuring vocalist Apollo Jane. The video features excerpts from Lynd Ward’s 1929 wordless novel God’s Man. The novel, created using wood engravings, paved the way for comic books and modern graphic novels.
Moby has been donating 100 percent of the profits from his work to human and animal rights charities for the past decade. This includes all the proceeds from his albums, his restaurant, his Circle V festival, and his free film music website, mobygratis. All the profits from All Visible Objects will be donated to charities as well, with each track acting as a fundraiser for a different cause.
The charities and nonprofits funds will go to the Indivisible Project, the Good Food Institute, the International Anti-Poaching Foundation, the Humane League, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Animal Equality, the American Civil Liberties Union, Extinction Rebellion, Rainforest Action Network, Mercy for Animals, and Brighter Green.
Moby is an American singer and songwriter who has sold 20 million records worldwide. In addition to being one of the most influential figures in dance music of the 1990s, he is also an accomplished photographer, writer, and a respected animal rights activist.
