In their new book, “Wounded for My Destiny,” Tiffany Denmark Belle and William Belle, Jr., share their inspiring real-life story, chronicling a love rekindled after 30 years, the challenges faced by a wounded warrior, and how, together, they adapted and overcame them.
William, known to his friends as Bill, was happily married in 2006. A sergeant in the U.S. Army, he had been serving in Iraq, where he had received not a scratch. As they returned to his Wisconsin Army base after a 30-day leave, Bill and his wife were involved in a traffic accident that took her life and put him in a coma for six months.
That might be the end of the story for another man, but Bill survived, although having suffered a traumatic brain injury. He found a photo of someone familiar — a girlfriend? — from long ago, and, feeling an odd but strong connection to her, kept the picture in his wallet.
On New Year’s Day 2006, Tiffany had written in a prayer journal, “Lord, I desire a husband. I don’t know who you will let find this good thing to be their wife but wherever they are, get them prepared for me as you get me prepared for them.”
A series of coincidences, if you believe in those, brought Bill and Tiffany back together two decades later. By then, Tiffany was a nurse, lonely after the death of her closest friend and confidant. She began to see the hand of God guiding her toward Bill, and the message became crystal-clear one day when she was wondering about whether to pursue a future with Bill when a vending machine dropped the answer into her hand. It was a Coca-Cola bottle with the phrase “Share a Coke with William” printed on it.
Now married to the girl in that old photo, in this book, Bill:
- provides hope and a unique perspective as a survivor of a life-threatening condition
- empowers survivors’ groups and families dealing with serious health concerns
- shares the steps to begin the emotional healing process
As a nurse trained in stress management and resilience, Tiffany:
- advises families, organizations, health-care professionals, and caregivers dealing with difficult medical situations
- shares how to realize hope despite overwhelming adversity with actionable steps to maintain your physical and emotional wellness
“Wounded for My Destiny” is the perfect Valentine’s Day story of a man who faced life-altering challenges and the woman who, with the help of her, faith, showed up at the right time to help him.
