New children’s book focuses on childhood depression and bravery

Gracie Brave, written by Pamela Krikke and Kate Eldean and illustrated by Jane Moore Houghton, is now available in full-color hardcover format for $16.99 (SRP). As a mother-daughter writing team, Krikke and Eldean have partnered together with the aim of helping children and families find their worth, value and voice. Through their book, Gracie Brave, they are working to help all kids understand how they can handle the challenges of growing up.

From the back cover:

Gracie Brave suffers from childhood depression. With grace, grit and determination she is on a mission to bring a message of hope, love and healing.

Set against a backdrop of a big city, Gracie sets out on adventures that stir up many emotions. With the love and support of her Mother Claire, her Grandmother and Dr. Benjamin she learns to navigate her daily life. In the end she realizes that she is very brave.

Gracie makes many friendships and affirms the story that we may have differences, but with hope and love we really aren’t that different after all.

The book has received positive feedback, including this 5-star Amazon review: “Gracie Brave is a first of a kind book for younger children who suffer from depression to understand that it’s okay when they have feelings/moods that are different from their friends and they can soar above them with help from family and “professionals”. The illustrations are captivating and endearing for young children and adults as well. The professional resources and suggestions provided at the end of the book are invaluable for parents/adults seeking assistance and intervention for a child who is exhibiting any of the behaviors described. Early intervention is key to aiding in the early diagnosis of childhood depression and Gracie Brave provides a first step in understanding this condition for the child and the parent.”

Gracie Brave is available at Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and other fine retailers worldwide. Wholesale orders can be placed through Ingram.
