Los Angeles, CA – May 30, 2018 – “Ray Meets Helen radiates a sense of the passage of time, a wistfulness that emerges from its maker’s core.” – WAMC, NPR-member station, Rob Edelman.
‘RAY MEETS HELEN’ is writer-director Alan Rudolph’s first feature in a decade-in-a-half. Maintaining similarities from his well-known previous films, including ‘Choose Me’, ‘Afterglow’, and‘Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle’, ‘RAY MEETS HELEN’ stands out with aging characters, longing for more in life. “Ray Meets Helen radiates a sense of the passage of time, a wistfulness that emerges from its maker’s core. According to Rudolph, what might have happened a long time ago can ‘seem like yesterday’, plus, there is ‘nothing, where something used to be’,” wrote WAMC’s Edelman.

Starring longtime Rudolph collaborator, Keith Carradine as ‘Ray’ alongside Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for ‘The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter’, Sondra Locke, ‘RAY MEETS HELEN’ follows the two characters separately, as they are both suddenly blessed with the good luck of endless free money, allowing the two to start new and improved lives as new people. But when their paths cross, the true reversal of fortune is when Ray and Helen begin to fall for each other’s true selves, as hand-in-hand, they become ready to embark on an unexpected journey of a lifetime.
“Ray and Helen are solitary lost souls who are floating through their lives and dealing with their issues. They meet, and at the center of the story is their evolving relationship. Is there an attraction here? Will it be mutual? Will it somehow last, or is it simply too late for any sort of meaningful connection?” wrote Edelman.
With support from three-time Primetime Emmy Awards winner, Keith David (‘The Thing’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘The Princess and the Frog’), Samantha Mathis (‘American Psycho’, ‘Little Women’), and Academy Award nominee, Jennifer Tilly (‘Bound’, ‘Liar Liar’, ‘Seed of Chucky’), ‘RAY MEETS HELEN’, a film quite relatable to an older audience, offers a “sobering view of our contemporary culture. At its core is the point that we do not live in an automatically happy-ever-after world, Edelman continued.
Edelman leaves us readers with the last thought – “The bottom line here is: Are we all fated to pass through our lives by ourselves?” Find out for yourself by watching ‘RAY MEETS HELEN’ today on several VOD platforms, including Amazon: https://amzn.to/2KY9VCW.
