Queens World Film Festival Spotlights Groundbreaking Films in 13th Annual Lineup
Tent Pole Selections Showcase Diverse Talent and Captivating Storytelling

Queens, NY – March 28, 2024 – The 13th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) is proud to announce its lineup of tent pole films, featuring a stunning array of talent and storytelling from around the globe. These standout selections exemplify the festival’s commitment to showcasing groundbreaking works and emerging voices in cinema.

Among the highly anticipated tent pole films is Who To Love by Emmy, Grammy, and BAFTA winner Giorgio Testi, an international premiere that explores the struggles of a rising concert star grappling with mental health issues. The film, starring Greta Scarano, accompanies a soon-to-be-released album of the same title by Grammy and Golden Globe-winning artist/producer Dave Stewart.

Another highlight is Freedom Hair, directed by Oscar-nominated writer/director Dianne Houston. Based on the inspiring true story of Melony Armstrong, the film follows a mother’s journey to start a natural hair braiding business in Mississippi, overcoming obstacles imposed by a powerful cartel and the state itself.

Fresh off his Sundance Grand Jury prize for his short The MasterPiece, Alex Lora presents his first feature, Unicorns, a thought-provoking exploration of a feminist’s experiences in the world of social media and moral judgments.

The festival also features Exit Interview, a romantic comedy by acclaimed producer and documentarian Victorious De Costa, known for his work on the NAACP Image Award-nominated HBO documentary Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn. The film boasts a star-studded cast and crew from the music industry.

“We are thrilled to present these remarkable films as part of our 13th annual lineup,” said Katha Cato, Executive Director of QWFF. “These stories not only entertain but also challenge audiences to think deeply about the human experience and the world around us.”

The presence of female filmmakers in festivals offers a unique glimpse into the experiences, imaginations, and insights of its female creators. With an impressive 40% of the films selected for screening being created by women, following 28% of submissions from women filmmakers “This is a woman-led film festival and it’s important for me to hold the door open for the people behind me!” said Katha Cato.

With an impressive lineup of 152 films from 19 nations, the 13th Annual Queens World Film Festival promises to be an unforgettable experience.
