Recovering Data Is Important In More Ways Than People Once Imagined

Nine years ago, there was a new idea in progress called Bitcoin. At that time in April of 2010, the price of one Bitcoin was around 1 to 2 pennies. Today on April 15, 2019 the price of one Bitcoin is about $5000. Unfortunately, many people who bought Bitcoin back then do not have it anymore due to data loss, and not realizing the enourmous value Bitcoin would become.

“I bought about $12 or more worth of Bitcoin about ten years ago when it was a few pennies each, but unfortunatley don’t have the Bitcoin files. One of my old hard drives from back then was also unrecoverable due to the drive going bad,” said Terrance Schemansky. The value of that Bitcoin today would be about $3,000,000. Unfortunately, even after a Data Recovery company recently attempted to pull data off that hard drive, they were unsuccessful. However, Terrance was not sure if there was any saved Bitcoin file or info. on that drive to begin with. He spent many hours, over the last few years looking through other hard drives he owns, after digging through old boxes in storage for old computers, hard drives, and other storage devices. “I realized that if I was meant to find that Bitcoin, I would, and I did my best,” said Schemansky.

Saving data is important in ways that people did not imagine years ago. If data from every computer that somone owned was saved somewhere, things like Bitcoin would be accessible to everyone who ever bought it when it was dirt cheap. There is however a lesson to be learned and Terrance expressed that Bitcoin was an opportunity that came about in 2009, just like domain names were an opportunity back in the 90’s. When the internet started out, many domain names could be registered cheap but later re-sold for thousands or even millions. Sometime in the future, perhaps we will look back in wonder about opportunities that are available now in 2019. In the meantime, be sure to backup your data in a reliable way or consider recovering data you currently have whether its photos, videos, or other important data.
