• Schneider Electric is one of the four companies that received the Catalyst Award for 2019
Schneider Electric , the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has had two important awards for its commitment and for the progress made by the whole Group in terms of equality gender and inclusion.
The company is one of the 230 companies included in the 2018 edition of the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) and for the first time received the 2019 Catalyst Award – for companies that launch ambitious and innovative initiatives, with the aim of making the environment more secure and inclusive work, giving women room to grow.
“Schneider Electric’s commitment is this: to offer equal opportunities for everyone and everywhere, to ensure that all our employees feel valued in their individuality and feel confident, so that they can give their best” commented Olivier Blum, Head of Human Resources and Executive Vice President of Schneider Electric. “Our presence in the Bloomberg index and the prestigious Catalyst Award highlight our excellent work in terms of diversity and inclusion, both globally and at the level of the individual countries in which we are present”.
Bloomberg recognizes Schneider Electric’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
For the second consecutive year, Schneider Electric is included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). This index, created in 2016 to provide managers and investors with comparative information on the level of gender equality in the largest financial services companies, has been extended to all industrial sectors since 2018. In 2019, Schneider Electric is one of 230 companies from all over the world – and one of only eight in the industrial sector – to be on the list.
Schneider Electric has achieved high marks for the commitment on these issues demonstrated by its top management, for company policies in favor of gender inclusion and for the commitment to promote equality in the communities in which it operates.
This very positive performance reflects the many initiatives that the company has put in place to produce change and monitor its progress. For the company this is so important that some activities – such as the application of a new policy on the issue of family leave (called Global Family Leave), and the creation of a path to achieve gender pay equality worldwide – they are an integral part of the Schneider Sustainability Impact sustainability report, which measures the company’s performance in terms of sustainable development.
At the end of 2018, more than 50 countries in which the Group is present had already implemented the Family Leave policy and over 90% of employees were covered by the Pay Equity Framework initiative.
Catalyst praises the extraordinary progress of Schneider Electric in India
The Catalyst Award rewards the most innovative organizational approaches, which bring verified and measurable results, accelerating the progress of the female condition through work inclusion. Schneider Electric is one of four companies that received recognition this year – along with Bank of America, Deutsche Post DHL Group and Elli Lily. The award was given for the holistic approach to gender inclusion that Schneider Electric India has taken to attract and retain female talent in the company.
Catalyst involved the leaders of the Indian branch and the employees in an extensive evaluation process, carried out by analyzing documents, conducting telephone interviews and on-site visits. Catalyst was favorably impressed with the results obtained by promoting the inclusion in the Delhi and Bangalore offices of Schneider Electric, in a country where gender equality is a major problem.
Schneider Electric India has activated programs to recruit and retain in the company women and people belonging to all the different dimensions of diversity: disabled, belonging to the LGBTI community…; has created initiatives to encourage the return of women to the workforce after a career break; has involved men to make them allies and promoters of diversity; allowed work flexibility for everyone. Furthermore, more and more fathers take parental leave periods.
Between 2015 and 2018 the impact of these initiatives became increasingly tangible. The presence of women on all professional levels has increased, from 15.9% to 20.8%, despite the overall workforce decreased by 5%; the voluntary resignation rate among female employees has almost halved, going from 14.6% to 7.8%.
The recognition of what Schneider Electric India has done bears witness to the company’s broader global evolution. Focusing on an inclusive goal for all, the results achieved in India are an example of the company’s willingness to offer equal opportunities to all, while creating a work environment in which employees can feel confident, both physically and on a psychological level.
