Schneider Electric Reveals Patent That Uses AI to Reduce Hazards

Schneider Electric has revealed a patent for technology designed to leverage AI to help reduce safety hazards in industrial processes.

Business Interest in AI is Growing

According to Matt Wood, Global Commercial Technology & Innovation Officer for PwC US, AI adoption is currently progressing “at a rapid clip,” with 2025 bringing “significant advancements in quality, accuracy, capability and automation.” With this trend in mind, global automation firm Schneider Electric recently revealed a patent for an AI-oriented approach to process safety — a solution they say adds more advantages to day-to-day operations as industries continue to embrace digital transformation.

Schneider Pushes Boundaries

According to Chris Stogner, Schneider Electric’s senior director of offer management, the company is “the first to push this boundary” when it comes to using AI to automate hazard process analysis. This technology works by automatically analyzing potential hazards. It then validates the protective mechanisms, using a tool that can engage them to prevent industrial process safety issues from persisting.

Long Term Benefits

For Schneider, the patent is just one component of a larger, strategic initiative the company has undertaken to use AI to enhance safety. Further efforts from Schneider include three other pending patents incorporating AI into safety hazard prevention. The company says these innovations are being developed in lockstep with “growing interest in combining human ingenuity in functional safety analysis with strategic implementation of reinforced learning to prevent hazardous scenarios in industrial automation.
