SOAR Summer Learning Program Offered to MEUSD Students

This past summer, TK-7th graders attending any Mountain Empire Unified School District school had the opportunity to be a part of a summer program which blended both academics and enrichment for an exciting 5 weeks! The Summer Opportunity for Academic Results (SOAR) program is supported by the Elite Academic Academy (EAA) and is a way for students to benefit from extra instruction in English-Language Arts and Mathematics throughout the summer.

Located on the Campo Elementary School campus, students who attend SOAR work with a credentialed teacher on academics focused on crucial concepts from their grade level. SOAR also provides students with opportunities that go beyond the enrichment of the traditional school setting. High-quality vendors teamed up with SOAR this past summer to bring programs including art, music, theater, hands-on science, and many other fun and exciting learning experiences to Mountain Empire Unified students. Some other enrichment activities offered included:

  • Cooking camp, where students learned about different countries and culture through cuisine

  • Musical theater, where participants learn about singing, dancing, and acting

  • Robotics, a program that teaches students about the engineering and science behind robotic building and controlling

  • Tennis, with a course designed to introduce students to tennis and give them the foundation to play full games


Dr. Kathy Granger, superintendent of Mountain Empire Unified School District, was able to support the SOAR program by providing free transportation and lunches for all students attending in 2018. Children attending SOAR 2018 loved the program and benefited from the classes. Parents were ecstatic about the enthusiasm their children were showing towards academics and new interests formed. MEUSD is proud to have partnered with EAA to create such an amazing summer for their students in 2018 and looks forward to continuing to do so in years to come.
