Los Angeles, CA – June 19, 2018 –
As window into world headlines, Bing’s $20 million USD ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ moves beyond the revolutionary “One Belt, One Road” initiative as it begins to mirror today’s copious headlines about the emerging trade war between China and the US.
“The craziest action movie ever [has] come to America.” – Maxim, Adam K. Raymond on ‘CHINA SALESMAN’, which will begin its USA theatrical with premieres in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, and other major cities and will soon come to VOD.
Based on a true story, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ is an intoxicating and epic international thriller following two telecom companies, MTM and DH, who fiercely compete to become Africa’s first mobile telecom technology, as a means to control the continent’s great mineral sources and to determine which country obtains the “better” technology to assist the communication between the north and the south. Representing the Chinese is a young IT engineer, Yan Jian (Dong Xue Li), who quickly discovers the outside countries’ personal, corrupt agendas by uncovering Michael, a French spy’s conspiracy to hire the great mercenary, Lauder (Steven Seagal), and former general, Kabbah (Mike Tyson) as a means of sure victory. Realizing only he can stop them, Yan Jian helps the president secure a line of communication throughout the country, to fight off the insurrection and restore peace.
‘CHINA SALESMAN’ moves beyond the revolutionary “One Belt, One Road” initiative mirroring the ancient Silk Road to market Chinese film and culture, to reflect this weeks’ world headlines, capturing the emerging and hostile trade war between China and the US. Intertwined within complicated political and interpersonal relationships, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ emphasizes Chinese telecommunication technologies, colored by the various scandals of manufactures, ZTE and Huawei, accused by the US for exploiting information to send overseas. The recent deal by President Donald Trump who imposed new and significantly high tariffs on Chinese products has elevated the hostility between countries. Surprisingly, Trump has allowed for China’s second-largest telecoms equipment maker, ZTE, to continue the almost-collapsing company’s standing and “will put an end to the near-fatal sanctions that prevented it from buying software and hi-tech components from US suppliers”, but at an extremely high cost, cites South China Morning Post’s Cary Huang. Similar to Yan Jian’s beliefs, power shouldn’t be in the hands of the corrupt and rich.
“This is not competition… This is robbery!” unleashes Yan Jian while Michael holds him at gunpoint.
Bing’s emphasis on the character of Michael is crucial, as he embodies today’s western world power. Michael’s sabotage of the competition and plan to set off the next civil war for self-serving monetary means mirrors the evilness and power of the western world, preventing China of access to international markets.
As a step through today’s looking glass, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ invites the world to re-experience recent world headlines. Bing’s film raises several real-life and headlined concerns – Can world industries rely on access to imports? Will other technology companies be similar to ZTE? Will domestic firms be able to fill the gap when foreign supplies are restricted? Further, Yan Jian’s complete transparency and as a champion of local Chinese autonomy, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ displays how a continent can coalesce as a single homogeneous political entity. Noted for its patriotic verve, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ invokes the endearing idea that such conflicts can be prevented through efficient, one-to-one communication.
‘CHINA SALESMAN’ will continue its limited USA theatricals in Las Vegas (Galaxy Cannery), Los Angeles (Arena Cinelounge Sunset), and New York (Cinema Village). The film is co-financed by Chinese conglomerate, Dalian Wanda Group and China’s state-run, China Film Group. In collaboration with Chinese company, Golden God Video & Culture Company, ‘CHINA SALESMAN’ contains a worldwide cast and crew, including the lead of Dong Xue Li (‘Sacrifice’, ‘The Wonderful Wedding’), Eriq Ebouaney (‘Hitman’, ‘Transporter3’), Steven Seagal (‘Above the Law’, ‘Under Siege’, ‘Exit Wounds’) and former heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson (‘Rocky Balboa’, ‘The Hangover’).
