The #bookdirect Symposium, Encouraging Tourism Operators To #bookdirect, Comes To Athens

The #bookdirect Symposium, an event for tourism operators that seek to mobilize them around the “#bookdirect” movement, is coming to the Arion Hotel in Athens, Greece from February 18 – 20, 2020.

The Symposium will offer a wide range of presentations and resources to tourism operators, helping them to encourage direct bookings and to foster a growing community that increases the size, reach and impact of the #bookdirect movement.

Symposium started in Berlin in 2015, as a group of intrepid city bike tour operators, and became the annual meeting of the cyclecities.tours partnership. Each February since then, Symposium has toured to a different European city. Now in it’s the sixth year, it’s Athens’ turn to host the event, as Symposium broadens to include the wider travel industry and bring attention and focus to the important #bookdirect issue.

Symposium attendees will learn how to utilize enhanced marketing techniques, corporate partnerships, brand loyalty programs, booking systems, and website design to encourage customers to book directly. The Symposium will feature professional presentations from guest speakers across various tourism sectors, including Mark Simpson from boostly.co.uk, as well as offer attendees the opportunity to eat, drink and socialize with the friendliest bunch of people in the tourism business, fostering valuable connections.

“We are excited to bring the Symposium to Athens this year,” remarked Steve Kopandy, Director of Cycle Cities Partnerships of Bike tours and #bookdirect Symposium. “The #bookdirect movement continues to grow across the tourism industry. We are proud to play our part each year in connecting tourism operators across the world and in providing a host of educational lectures and collaboration opportunities for each operator.”

About #bookdirect Symposium

Today, customers are finding hotels, tours, and other travel arrangements through online travel agents that collect hefty commissions. The #bookdirect Symposium, which seeks to connect travel and accommodation providers with customers directly, has been helping tourism operators encourage customers to bypass online travel agents and book directly, saving money on commission fees and overall arrangement cost.
