Los Angeles, CA – March 2, 2018 –

The front page of The Economist headlines: “Misinformation and conspiracy abound. Is it a benign organization or one bent on subverting government?”

Today, little is known about the vast and longtime Freemasons – the world’s oldest and most powerful secret fraternity. Masonic rituals are often questioned, lodge doors seem closed to non-Masons, and longtime membership is seen as secret.

“Freemasonry can appear incomprehensible because it contains no coherent ideology or doctrine, and is defined instead by a commitment to universal brotherhood and self-improvement. Nor does a single governing body exist. It is made up of a loose network of groups, known as lodges, that fall under regional and national grand lodges,” opened H.K., The Economist

Similar to other fraternities and community groups, the Freemasons have longtime followed a practice of “secrecy, morality, and good fellowship” with qualities of “Real worth and personal merit only” allowing entry into a Masonic lodge, aiming to emphasize the importance of the Masonic Brotherhood.

“Freemasonry was exceptional. Its rituals were more secretive and elaborate than those of other clubs. It was also secular, nonpartisan and egalitarian, at least in theory,” wrote H.K.

Today, Freemasonry lodge membership in America has declined to its lowest membership of 1.1m, down from 4.1m in 1959, reported H.K., adding, “This decline mirrors weak participation in civic groups more broadly. In his study of contemporary freemasonry, J. Scott Kenney, a sociologist, tells of masons joining the group in search of greater meaning.”

With Director Johnny Royal’s seven-in-the-year feature documentary, ’33 & BEYOND: THE ROYAL ART OF FREEMASONRY’, the outside world of Non-Masons are able to fully experience, learn, and explore further in depth than The Economist with the featured prominent members of today’s California Freemasons on their unprecedented and revealing journey of the world’s oldest and most secret fraternity.

Royal’s beautiful and eye-opening ’33 & BEYOND: THE ROYAL ART OF FREEMASONRY’ is revolutionary as the first feature documentary to fully explore the entire structure of the American Masonic system, from every degree of the Blue Lodge (1-3), York Rite (Royal Arch, Cryptic Council, and Knights Templar), and Scottish Rite (4-33) are explored along the narrative of the “hero’s quest” in the documentary.

By providing education and enlightenment on Freemasonry, supplemented with poignant interviews from featured Mason brothers provides for a first-hand account of timeless practiced rituals, answers to long-time myths and the significance of examining and preserving the Freemasons’ history in modern day.
