Camden County, NJ – Vincent Squire, Republican candidate for Camden County Freeholder, will launch the South Jersey Race Against Hunger at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at the Food Bank of South Jersey, 1501 John Tipton Blvd., in Pennsauken.
The race is an effort to enlist community groups, large and small, to fill boxes with non-perishable food items. In recent weeks, donations have slowed and reserves are getting low. The Food Bank has until October 31 to build up its supplies enough to accommodate the fall and winter holidays.
In South Jersey, 44,000 children go to bed hungry each day. The Food Bank of South Jersey operates on a simple premise: Food should not be wasted when hungry people are in our midst. The food bank has built an effective food distribution program that annually links nearly 12 million pounds of food – 32,876 pounds per day – with more than 150 charitable food providers, such as food pantries, community kitchens and shelters in the four counties it serves: Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, and Salem.
A member of the Feeding America network of national food banks, the Food Bank of South Jersey works alongside four other food banks in the state to develop immediate and effective solutions to eliminate hunger and food insecurity.
In addition, the Food Bank of South Jersey sends thousands of pounds of food for disaster relief throughout the United States.
