Tonglu county in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province is calling for talented managers to bolster its flourishing bed and breakfast (B&B) industry.
According to an advertisement recently published by the county government, around 20 B&Bs in the county are in need of managers, and people with relevant working experience are preferred.
Huo Fan, the manager of a local B&B, said Tonglu’s flourishing tourism industry was partially due to the high-quality services offered by its B&Bs. She said managers would contact guests in advance through WeChat, a Chinese instant messaging app, in order to learn about their personal needs and tell them the B&B’s location and rules. They also often pick up guests and transport them to the B&B, introduce them the B&B’s facilities, and help guests with their travel plans.
“After our B&Bs reopened, we saw a busy summer holiday in July and August and we are now in urgent need of experienced managers,” said Yuan Jing, an official from the county bureau of agriculture and rural affairs. “We are planning to offer targeted training for managers and will continue to improve our services to attract more visitors for our county and for China Hangzhou.”
College graduates working at local B&Bs who demonstrate talent can receive subsidies of 20,000 yuan ($2,954) per person each year for two consecutive years from the local government. Managers recognized by the local government as “gold managers” can receive 5,000 yuan in bonuses.
Tonglu is currently home to 661 B&Bs, 95 of which have been designated “boutique” B&Bs, with a total of 11,690 beds. The B&Bs received a total of 6.65 million tourists and earned 436 million yuan in revenue in 2019, up 28.8 and 28.7 percent, respectively.
