The 1000 Islands rehabilitation centre in Ontario has mobile field operators called Interventionists. These dedicated people go out to homes to try to educate both addicts who want to stop and the families and friends who can help. This is usually done at their home or at a place of safety for the individual, a place where everything is calm and no head-on intervention must take place.
Having trained interventionists in the field help achieve rehabilitation goals. Mobile interventionists solve the problem of addicts not wanting to or, being scared of going to rehabilitation centres. There is a lot that can be accomplished and it is easier to get to addicts in their own environment, than taking them out of their comfort zone. These interventionists have incredible facets that help towards getting addicts to come to the centre.
There are various classes called models, which are the maneuvering strategies of mobile interventionists. Here are a few:
The Johnson Model involves getting friends and family members together to create an environment of safety, love and one of calm atmosphere. Also, the atmosphere may become very productive and family members also need to learn how to overcome a loved one’s addiction. They can help if they know how. There is never a need to face an addict head-on as this usually doesn’t work. Once the whole plan is upset the effort becomes useless.
The Arise Model especially when a bad case arises a careful and positive soft approach is needed. The interventionist and the family or loved ones concerned have to have several meetings to get to know the situation. The addicted member may join but it is not planned. Only after these have occurred, is the time to include the troubled member. This is a soft approach as well but is quite effective long term. The process has to start somewhere.
The Systemic Model as the term implies, is for individuals who become uncomfortable with meetings etc and have to be carefully introduced by the creating of several small gatherings to get at the root of the problem. As a tree absorbs systemic poison to kill that which is destroying it, this method works on a similar principle. It does take longer however to get closer to one of the other models mentioned.
Understanding addiction is difficult for some. There are those who cannot see the necessity for taking drugs. These are usually self-motivated individuals with a high regard for themselves and therefore need no crutch to help them. In fact, they need no help at all and therefore cannot understand why colleagues or some friends need help. Their esteem is at a low ebb and this is where the particular addictive crutch comes into play. It is so difficult to leave this behind without help.
The interventionist work is not done once they have setup some acceptance of their help as it must be followed through. It can take weeks and sometimes months to get back on the path that was once followed and even then, they need to keep checking as a path has many forks in it.
Every case is different and will have a different conclusion, some positive and some needing more work. If it is thought that the help of and interventionist is needed or will be well received, please contact https://addictionrehabthousandislands.ca/addiction-intervention/ to get the process started.
