Starring Sophie NĂ©lisse, Callum Keith Rennie, Isabelle NĂ©lisse and Maria Bello; The Film is Adapted from Best-Selling Award-Winning Novel by Mary Downing Hahn
Culver City, CA, USA – May 4, 2016 – TRICOAST ENTERTAINMENT has acquired worldwide rights to Wait Till Helen Comes from CARAMEL FILMS. TriCoast will show and sell the family thriller at Cannes for the purposes of worldwide distribution. Entertainment One (eOne) is distributing in Canada.
Wait Till Helen Comes is the first feature film based on the book of the same name by author Mary Downing Hahn, best-selling and award-winning young adult novelist. The story revolves around a blended family’s encounter with the ghost of a little girl, as they move to the country from Baltimore. Heather, the youngest child, rattles their much hoped for quiet country life by forging a dangerous relationship with the ghost. Her elder stepsister Sophie, terrified of ghosts and battling her own teen troubles, is faced with overcoming her fears as she attempts to rescue the misled child.
First published in 1986—never out of print—the novel is now in its 20th Printing at HMH Publishing, and appears on numerous US schools’ recommended reading lists.
“Wait Till Helen Comes is an elevated genre movie in high-demand but low supply,” said Daisy Hamilton, TriCoast’s VP-Acquisitions. “It is truly a scary ghost story for children not allowed at PG-13 and R-rated movies, yet it still delivers a message of family values. Just think about it – a spooky movie that parents can feel safe about having their children see, either with or without them.”
Directed by Dominic James and adapted for the screen by Victoria Sanchez Mandryk, the film stars Sophie Nelisse (The Book Thief); Callum Keith Rennie (Fifty Shades of Grey,); Isabelle Nelisse (Mama); and Maria Bello (Prisoners, A History of Violence). Author Downing Hahn makes a cameo appearance in the movie as well. Lead Producers are Andre Rouleau, Don Carmody, Victoria Sanchez Mandryk, Valerie d’Auteuil and Inferno Pictures with executive producers Scott Mednick and Manuel Freedman.
