Las Vegas, NV – February 25, 2025 – The UNLV Collegiate 100 and Hillel Las Vegas Center of Jewish Student Life at UNLV, in collaboration with the Academic Engagement Network, 100 Black Men of Las Vegas Inc., and Black and Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow, are proud to invite the community to a Black and Jewish Unity Dinner in honor of Black History Month.
The event will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 5:30 PM at the UNLV Student Union, Room 208, located at 4505 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154.
This special evening will explore the deep-rooted connections between African Americans and Jewish communities, focusing on the Civil Rights Movement. Through engaging discussions, attendees will gain insight into the collaborative efforts that led to the formation of pivotal organizations like the NAACP and the Urban League, as well as the passage of landmark the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965.
Featured Speakers:
John Eaves, PhD — Former Fulton County Commissioner and respected academic, Dr. Eaves is deeply committed to fostering racial justice and community dialogue. He has chaired the Racial Justice Committee at the Rothschild Social Justice Institute and serves on the boards of the American Jewish Committee Atlanta and the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. Dr. Eaves is the founder of the Black and Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow initiative, aimed at bridging divides and promoting unity among Black and Jewish college students. He holds degrees from Morehouse College, Yale University, and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
Kenneth A. Cottrell, M.A. — An expert in urban policy and a second-year Doctoral Candidate in Public Policy at UNLV, Kenneth focuses on energy efficiency in indoor agriculture. As the Director of Communications for 100 Black Men of Las Vegas Inc. and Campus Advisor for the UNLV Collegiate 100, he is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of leaders. Kenneth is also an active member of Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, NV, advocating for unity and interfaith dialogue. He studied Finance at Morehouse College. He holds a Bachelors in Urban Studies, and Master’s in Urban Leadership from UNLV.
This event offers a unique opportunity for community members to come together, celebrate shared histories, and foster unity. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary dinner and have the chance to network with fellow students, faculty, and community leaders.
